Here are some comics I’ve done. You can read through most in their entirety here, though a few titles may only have sample pages available because they have been, or will be, published.
January 2011. 8-page, BW toned oneshot.
This was my submission to the 2011 SCAD Sequential Arts Anthology, and I am pleased to report that it was accepted.
October 2010. 23-page, BW toned oneshot.
I missed 24hr Comic Day in 2010 and gave myself the rest of the month to do a “make-up” comic. It’s 23 pages, but the cover counts as one, so there! Relevant blog entries one and two.
April-May 2010. 40-page, color oneshot.
Rainbows and Rainclouds is an indirect sequel to Sunflowers and Rainbows. The protagonist and dicorn friend have some adventures while trying to hunt down the missing rainclouds that have plunged the meadows into a serious drought. :O This comic was brought from conception to completion in approximately eight weeks for my senior project at SCAD and is available in a lovely, printed, perfect bound form at conventions (which includes two bonus illustrations). It may eventually be available for general online sale.
March 2010. 4-page, mixed media adaptation.
This is a short adaptation of Robert Frost’s “Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening,” one of my favorite poems. Done mostly in watercolor with some gouache and cut paper, it was an interesting exercise in doing a colored comic completely in traditional medias. Conclusion: if I could speed up my process, I’d definitely paint more comics.
December-January 2010. 8 BW strips & 1 color strip, possibly on-going.
A short series of strips about a Japanese-American kid’s first visit to Japan. Grains of Salt itself was originally a noncommittal, experimental webcomic I had whose characters were pretty much perfect for this project. I have more ideas scripted and would like to continue this sometime in the future.
January 2010. 9-page, BW toned oneshot.
“the wolves are here” was a quick idea I had, but I can see it becoming the prelude to a longer project. The ending here is somewhat open and there are a lot of different directions I could go from there. Only four pages are available here online, but the full comic is available as a mini at conventions. The comic is also included in the “Spicy” half of the second Sugar Ninjas anthology, to be on sale July 2010.
October 2009. 4-page BW oneshot.
“Greater Than DOG” was made for inclusion in the 2010 SCAD Sequential Arts Anthology for distribution to prospective and undeclared students. It stars the same protagonist and follows the same format as “Sunflowers and Rainbows” though the style’s shifted a little as I was still working on the best way to depict the characters.
24hr Comic Day 2009 (October). 24-page BW oneshot.
Following the previous year’s adaptation, I definitely wanted to do something original for 2009′s 24hr Comic Day. This is what came out of my head at the last minute and I’m really happy with how it turned out, given all the restraints of the event. Aside from the cover (really just page 15) which was colored at a later date, only minor clean-up edits were made to the pages after the initial 24 hours. This comic was included in the “Sweet” portion of the second Sugar Ninjas anthology.
24hr Comic Day 2008 (October). 24-page BW adaptation.
For 2008′s 24hr Comic Day, I decided to adapt Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, which is one of my favorite children’s books. It’s technically cheating, but hey, the book fits very nicely in 24 pages! This comic was inked traditionally and hand-lettered on approximately 7×11″ pages. Of course, a year later, the movie adaptation came out.
